All Babies are Cute
Does grocery shopping get any better than at a farmers market that shines in seasonal color?
The market was an irresistible melee of purple, red, green, yellow and orange. I came home with bags full of fresh produce: purple carrots, black radish, colorful baby beets, rainbow chard, watermelon radish, kumquats and a juicy, aromatic, ugly looking but oh so tasty grapefruit.
The baby beets were up first. I plucked their greens, chopped their stems, and roasted the tiny little roots. They all reunited again on the plate.
Greens - wilted with a little olive oil and salt flakes
Stalks - chopped and sautéed with garlic, celery (also chopped), olive oil, and cooked green lentils. Spiced up with cayenne and a dash of fruity vinegar.
Baby beetroots - roasted on top
