Small artist community Dixon is roughly midway between Santa Fe and Taos, and home to art galleries, wineries and organic farms. A good source of information about Dixon’s many small businesses, including studios, galleries and farmers in the area, is Dixon Studio Tour website: dixonarts.org.

WHERE TO SHOP
Dixon Farmers Market
(dixonfarmersmarket.com) is held every summer Wednesday 3:30–6:30pm in front of the co-op market in central Dixon. Dixon Farmers Market participates in SNAP (Supplement Nutritional Assistance Program). For every EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) dollar, the cardholder will receive $2 in market bucks.
Dixon Cooperative Market (dixonmarket.com) is a community-supported grocery store. Anyone can shop at the co-op but an optional membership program offers part ownership and a say in decisions.

WINERIES TO VISIT
La Chiripada
has tasting rooms in Dixon and in Taos. For hours and further information: lachiripada.com. Vivác’s tasting room in Dixon was built of adobe by the winemakers themselves. An in-house chocolatier, an in-house cheesemaker and an art gallery on site add to the pleasures of wine tasting. For more information: vivacwinery.com

LODGING
You can enjoy the gorgeous scenery of the Embudo River Valley at Stanley Crawford’s El Bosque Garlic Farm (stanleycrawford.net) from The Tower Guesthouse, a one-bedroom apartment in an old stone building amid the fields of the farm. The Deli Market at the Co- Op (dixonmarket.com) offers house-made breakfast burritos, soup of the day, sandwich selection and artisan pizza. Open M–F 9am–7pm, Sa–Sun 10am–6pm.
